Who we are

Comfortable self-catering accommodation in the heart of the Nama West Coast. Our resort is situated in the Western Cape town of Vanrhynsdorp in the Matzikama region. Matzikama lies on the N7, Cape Namibia route, approximately 300 km (3 hours) north of Cape Town and 1200 km (11 hours) from Windhoek. It can also be reached from the north (Gauteng, Mpumalanga, etc.) along the N14/R27 via Upington, N12/R27 via Kimberley and the N1/R63 via Bloemfontein and Victoria West.

Vanrhynsdorp

Vanrhynsdorp is the oldest and most southern town in Namaqualand, known for its breathtaking sunsets, rare flora and carpets of wildflowers that miraculously appear every year between July and September.

Matzikama is home to the most northerly vineyards in the Western Cape and offers the wine lover a variety of cellars to visit for wine tasting and/or purchasing. Hiking trails in and around Matzikama give the hiker the opportunity to absorb the rugged beauty, endless views and flora and fauna of the area. Rock art, the ancient pictorial history of the San and Khoi people, is abundant in the area, with some of the most beautiful to be seen in the Matzikama Mountains. Four x four trails form part of the activities offered to the outdoor, adventurous visitor.

Stargazers paradise! The clear summer night sky, minimal ambient town lighting and almost no air pollution make it an ideal environment to explore the southern night sky. Our resort is an excellent stop for holidaymakers or 4×4 travellers on their way to Namibia or to visit the “Knersvlakte” with its rare plant species!

Winter, our rainy season, falls during the months of May – August and is generally cool with an average temperature of 20°C. Summers, on the other hand, are hot and dry, with a relatively comfortable average temperature of 29°C.

What to bring: A camera, video camera, binoculars, a good book about flowers from Namaqualand, a sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and a first aid kit.
